Broken Plate Mosaics - "Show your Love in Picassiette"

“Show Your Love” is a beginner’s introduction to the art of picassiette - mosaics using the “broken plate.” You will learn tips for nipping, shaping and working with plates while making a one-of-a-kind heart plaque. This is a great way to preserve a damaged dish which carries special memories! We will work with a heart shaped wood substrate, learning how to prepare it before we use premixed adhesive (mastic) to adhere our ceramic shards. We will also discuss the differences in ceramics, porcelains, and china. This is a great time to include favorite pieces of ceramic knick-knacks, brooches, beads or other memorabilia in your design. Search your drawers and bring it!
Some wrist strength is required for nipping the plates. Please bring any nippers you may own as well as favorite thrift sourced plates. Class supplies on hand will include tools, adhesive, heart substrate and grout. WAC does have some plates on hand but no guarantees of the colors or designs.
**Note: because the piece must dry thoroughly before being grouted, we will grout on Wednesday, May 21st at 5:30pm. If you cannot come at that time you may want to take a baggie of grout + instructions home with you to complete. Or there is the option of paying the instructor a small fee to finish it for you and pick up later at the Arts Council.
