Over four sessions, students will learn the academic approach to draw accurately in order to build skills that give likeness in a portrait and realism with any subject. The curriculum will use the famous 19th century Bargue course, developed by Charles Bargue and Jean-Léon Gérôme to teach drawing at the Parisian Academy. We will begin with the basics of positions to hold a pencil, drawing clean lines, comparative measurement, tilts, and other methods to do a simple line drawing of a Bargue plate. In the last session, students will draw either a portrait or a still life from a photo.
